DEPUTY Speaker and Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel is the third House member to test positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Pimentel yielded positive results after undergoing reverse transcription – polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing last Sunday in the House of Representatives in line with the strict health protocols for the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte on Monday.
He was one of an estimated 550 congressmen and senators, officials and employees of the House of Representatives, Senate and Malacañang who underwent the RT-PCR test by the government.
Pimentel announced that he is now in isolation after receiving a call from Dr. Richard Dizon, head of the House of Representatives health medical service, close midnight Monday.
"I had my swab and the result was positive,” said Dizon.
On Saturday night, House Secretary General Atty. Jose Luis G. Montales announced that Sulu Rep. Samier Tan was the second lawmaker after Bulacan Rep. Henry Villarica to test positive for COVID-19.
Sources said three other staff members of the House of Representatives also tested positive after undergoing RT-PCR testing.
From 22 recorded COVID-19 cases last Saturday, Pimentel is now considered the 23rd case following his admission.
Attendees of the President’s SONA were required to undergo RT-PCR swab test on Sunday and rapid test on Monday.
