A 47-year-old AWOL member of the Philippine National Police since 2000 was arrested by combined agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the local police in a buy-bust operation in Pikit, North Cotabato last Friday, PDEA chair, Director General Aaron N. Aquino announced yesterday.
AWOL Police Officer Ruel Pilipinas alias ‘Weng-Weng,’ a resident of Barangay Poblacion in Pikit was placed under arrest after he sold shabu to an undercover officer in his neighborhood where he has gained notoriety for involvement in illegal drug activities apart from using his house as a drug den, said Aquino.
A background check showed that Pilipinas used to be a member of the PNP Maritime Command from 1995 to 1997 before joining the National Capital Region Police Office in 1998. He went on Absence Without Official Leave status 18 years ago.
“We have jailed another high-value drug target with the help of information from concerned citizens,” Aquino said.
The official said the suspect yielded around one gram of shabu worth P6,800, several drug paraphernalia, the marked money he received from the undercover officer and several live ammunition.
The ex-cop was charged for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 12 (Possession of Drug Paraphernalia), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of ammunition under RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.
He is now being held at the Pikit Municipal Police Station lock-up cell.
