Big names in politics, showbiz join Lakas

POLITICAL kingpins and well-known showbiz and sports personalities yesterday took their oath as new members of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).
Lakas-CMD president Martin Romualdez and Lakas-CMD secretary general and Deputy Speaker Prospero “Butch” Pichay of Surigao del Sur welcomed the new recruits led by former Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. who is running for mayor in next year’s midterm poll.
“Our new members are strong addition to Lakas, you are all welcome to the party,” Romualdez, told the would-be candidates in Parañaque City, Sorsogon and Eastern Samar who joined the brief ceremony held at the Speaker’s Social Hall of the House of Representatives.
Bernabe said veteran actor Christopher “Boyet” de Leon, who was represented by his sister-in-law Twinkle Andolong during the event, said the award-winning actor may join Lakas-CMD as his congressional candidate.
“He will be eventually joining us,” said Bernabe, referring to de Leon who previously served as a provincial board member in Batangas from 2010 to 2013.
Former actor and incumbent Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) deputy secretary-general Jeremy Marquez joined the ceremony and will run as Bernabe’s running-mate.
Other artists who joined Lakas-CMD and will run in the Parañaque City council were Rochelle Barrameda, former Kapamilya actor Dominic Ochoa and former PBA player Jolly Escobar.
