FORMER Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday affirmed his support for his daughter, Makati Mayor Abby Binay, who filed her certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Makati as the official mayoral candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Asked by members of the media who he will be campaigning for, the elder Binay confirmed his support for his daughter. “Sabihin na lang natin na sinusuportahan ko siya,” he replied, referring to Mayor Abby.
For her part, Mayor Abby told reporters that she was heartened by her father’s gesture of support, saying she was surprised. “Surprised (ako). Mahirap mag-expect eh. Kaya nakakataba ng puso, tsaka syempre mas nakakataba ng puso na nandito yung aking ama,” she stated.
The mayor thanked VP Binay for supporting her ticket. “Nagpapasalamat kami sa suporta na ibinibigay ng aking ama sa aming tiket,” she said.
In an earlier statement, Mayor Abby said Makatizens today enjoy more services under a “transparent, professional and performing administration”, after her administration restored transparency and the institutional integrity of the city government. She vowed that if re-elected, she will pursue her father’s vision of a “competent, compassionate and transparent leadership.”
The elder Binay is running for a seat in Congress as Representative of the First District of Makati.
Also running for re-election under UNA’s Team Performance in Makati are Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo and Congressman Luis Campos of the Second District of Makati.
