Bong Go: Malasakit Center, Universal Healthcare Bill unite for Filipinos’ health welfare

February 07, 2019

FORMER Special Assistant to the President (SAP) and aspiring senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go announced that the Malasakit Center program will work together with the Universal Healthcare Bill (UHC) in dealing with the healthcare needs of Filipinos.

In a radio interview with Doris Bigornia on DZMM, the former SAP explained that the Universal Healthcare Bill is a milestone law that, upon passage, will authorize the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to handle larger amounts of funding from the government that have been set aside for health-related concerns of Filipinos.

“Iba po itong Universal Healthcare (Bill). Kung sakaling maipasa po ito, ito namang Universal Healthcare ay importanteng ma-achieve rin natin kasi magiging ‘yung PhilHealth na po ‘yung magpapackage nitong lahat ng tulong ng gobyerno. ‘Yung pondo po (ng gobyerno para sa pagpapagamot ng mga Pilipino), doon ilalagay sa PhilHealth,” Go stated.

In line with this, Bong Go clarified that the Malasakit Center program will not be affected by the impending passage of the Universal Healthcare Bill since it will remain to be the processing center where patients undergo assessment procedure to be entitled to health packages.

“Yung Malasakit Center naman will not be affected with the passage of the UHC law. Magiging processing center pa rin (ito); one-stop shop will still be the Malasakit Center. Bale, kung sakali pong, after ng tulong ng UHC ay may balanse pa po, doon na po papasok ang pondo ng Office of the President,” Go explained.

The Malasakit Center, a program of the Duterte administration, is a one-stop shop where DOH, DSWD, PAGCOR, PhilHeath, PCSO, and satellite offices of other government agencies are housed in one area to ease the process for patients availing of quick medical and financial assistance from the government.

Bong Go, who was involved in putting up Malasakit Centers when he was serving as the top aide of President Duterte, said he wants to push a law that would put more Malasakit Centers in provincial and urban parts of the nation to help patients in need of medical aid and support from the government.

Aside from the Malasakit Center, Bong Go has a legislative agenda which has programs for agriculture, housing, improved health service delivery, education, long-term sports development, localized peace talks, anti-drug and crime drive, anti-corruption drive, barangay welfare, creation of a Department of OFWs, as well as senior citizen concerns.

“Basta importante po, mabalik sa tao ‘yung pera (nila) at magagamit talaga, (eksakto) po, ‘yung pera (ng gobyerno) para sa pagpapagamot (ng mga pasyenteng nangangailangan). ‘Yun naman po ang pakay natin dito. Magtulungan po tayo para sa ikabubuti ng bawat Pilipino,” said Go, reiterating that government funding must be properly utilized to help Filipinos when it comes to their health.
