IT’S official: former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is running for the Senate.
This was announced by Lakas-CMD President former Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez who said Revilla will run under Lakas.
According to Romualdez, the former senator reached the decision to run after a series of consultations with his family, close friends, constituents and political leaders.
Weeks before, some officers of Lakas visited Revilla in his detention cell in the Philippine National Police (PNP) custodial center to talk about his political plans.
Revilla, the current chairman of Lakas, is still in detention due to pending plunder and graft charges in connection with the pork barrel fund scam.
“I am pleased and honored to officially announce the candidacy for the Senate of Sen. Bong Revilla Jr., our party chairman,” Romualdez said in a statement.
Romualdez said Revilla is one of the most qualified senatorial aspirants.
“His passion and dedication to serve the people will bring positive change and help improve the country’s good governance, policies, and lawmaking process,” Romualdez said.
“His experience as a two-term senator has helped him gain an understanding about the complexities of various problems besetting the nation,” he added.
Romualdez, also the president of the Philippine Constitution Association, pointed out that Revilla’s integrity and honesty will make him a strong candidate for the Senate.
“With the people and God’s help, the Lakas-CMD is looking forward to his victory in next year’s midterm poll,” Romualdez said.
Meanwhile, the Lakas-CMD announced its full support for the senatorial candidates of Hugpong ng Pagbabago regional party of presidential daughter and incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio.
To date, Lakas-CMD has produced two excellent Presidents -- President Fidel V. Ramos and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
