THE Estrada-Ejercito clan proved that indeed “blood is thicker than water.”
In yesterday’s campaign sortie in San Juan City, re-eletionist Sen. JV Ejercito and his mother San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez showed support to the mayoral bid of the current Vice Mayor Janella Ejercito, the daughter of former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, JV’s stepbrother.
The Hugpong ng Pagbabago, led by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, is on its third day in its campaign caravan in the vote-rich Metro Manila.
Both Senator Ejercito and Mayor Gomez urged the people of San Juan to support the candidacy of Janella, who is fighting against Francisco Javier Zamora. Sen. JV is the son of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada with Mayor Gomez , while Jinggoy is former President Estrada’s son with wife Dr. Loi Ejercito.
In return, Jinggoy appealed to their constituents to make Senator JV number one senator in the May 13 elections.
“Ang pakiusap ko sa inyo, sa darating na election gawin ninyong number 1 si JV, ako kahit number 2 lang,” Jinggoy said. In a later interview he said he is sincere about his endorsement of his half brother.
The Hugpong ng Pagbabago is endorsing both Senator JV and Jinggoy. However, President Rodrigo Duterte is only supporting JV and dropped Jinggoy as guest candidate of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
In a separate interview, Senator JV said he is worried that his and his brother’s votes might be divided because many voters will not vote for two candidates with the same surnames or bets related to each other running for the same position.
“She (Mayor Gomez) is very concerned of my situation kasi ang hirap ng dalawang magkapatid magkasabay. Ang problema ko talaga yung confusion. Talagang meron pa rin,” Senator JV said.
In his speech, JV introduced his niece Janella as San Juan City’s next mayor.
Senator JV, Mayor Gomez and Janella were seen exchanging pleasantries onstage.
Janella returned the favor to her uncle JV by campaigning for him alongside her father Jinggoy.
“Hayaan niyo po akong ikampanya ang aking Tito at ang aking ama. Ang mahal na mahal ng buong San Juan, ang ating minamahal na Mr. Healthcare, Senator JV Ejercito. At siyempre po, huwag nating kakalimutan, ibalik natin ang boses ng masa sa Senado, ang anak ng masa, Senator Jinggoy Estrada,” Janella said.
Jinggoy, who has a pending plunder case and is merely out on bail, wants a comeback in the Senate.
