COVID-19 cases in Batasan hits 22, Sulu solon latest victim

THE House of Representatives now has 22 confirmed coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) positive cases, including a congressman from Mindanao as President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte is scheduled to deliver his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) this afternoon at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City.

House Secretary General Atty. Jose Luis G. Montales announced on

Saturday night that Sulu Rep. Samier Tan was the second lawmaker after

Bulacan Rep. Henry Villarica to test positive for COVID-19.

“Representative Samier A. Tan (1st District of Sulu) tested positive for COVID-19. He last went to HRep on May 18. He is asymptomatic and under home quarantine in Sulu,” said Montales in his message.

Montales also said that a consultant of a lawmaker and a staff writer at the Committee Publication staff have also tested positive.

He said the consultant went to the House of Representatives on July 14 and 15.

On both occasions, Montales said she worked alone in the office and went to a bank in the Batasan Complex on July 15.

“She got tested after developing fever. She is now asymptomatic and under home isolation,” said Montales. “Contact tracing is ongoing.”

“Another employee, a Committee Publication Staff Writer, also tested positive.  She last reported for work on July 8, interacting with no one in her office. She was tested after developing fever with colds.

She is on home quarantine,” said Montales.

Meanwhile, he said “the other confirmed case from Internal Audit Department has now tested negative.”
