THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is set to convene around 200 representatives from 76 national government agencies for a two-day conference on federalism starting today  at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.

Interior and Local Government  Secretary Eduardo M. Año said the gathering is to ensure the commitment of the different agencies of the government in the advocacy campaign to shift towards a federal system.

“The NGA Conference will be an avenue to discuss among the government agencies the fundamental principles of federalism, the need to shift from a unitary to a federal form of government, and their significant role in the advocacy campaign for federalism as one of the President’s primary agenda,” he said.

Last year, Malacañang issued Memorandum Circular 52 creating the IATF  tasked to integrate, harmonize and coordinate efforts toward federalism and constitutional reforms.
