INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano is well and will continue to direct the operations of the Department from his home while on quarantine even after having tested positive for COVID-19.

DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya announced this Wednesday morning as all uniformed personnel and local government officials nationwide prayed for his speedy recovery.

According to Malaya, Ano was on home quarantine since March 26, is currently doing fine and manifests no symptoms of the disease.

In his public disclosure, the DILG chief clearly said that the result of the test will not in any way dampen his spirit and energy to do the job given him.

“Therefore, we wish to assure the public that the Secretary is fully in charge and that the operations of the entire Department including the interior sector -- the PNP, BFP and the BJMP -- will not in any way be affected by this development,” Malaya said.

The Secretary, he added, has constant access to the President, the senior officials of the Department and is in constant communication with the IATF-MEID, NTF-COVID-19, DILG Emergency Operations Center, JTF COVID Shield and the PNP Command Center.

Malaya said “the Secretary will harness the newest technology to communicate, give instructions, and will get the job done.”

Senior officials of the Department who were in close contact with the Secretary, including Malaya, are now on self-quarantine and will observe symptoms in accordance with DOH protocols.

As the country enters the third week of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, the Secretary urged the entire Department to double its efforts in fighting COVID-19.

Being in the frontlines of this war, the public depends largely on the national government to be relentless in this battle to ensure their safety and well-being.

“As we gear towards providing the largest direct financial assistance to poor families in the history of our country, the DILG will be there to support our partner agencies and monitor Local Government Units,” Malaya said.
