DPWH starts work on 2 quarantine centers

THE Department of Public Works and Highways today announced the start of work on two additional quarantine facilities in Metro Manila.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the Filinvest Tent in Muntinlupa City will be converted into a qurantine facility with 108 beds.

He added the DPWH will also commence building of a quarantine center at the Philippine Institute of Sports Multi-Purpose Arena or Philsports Arena, formerly ULTRA, in Pasig City.

“We will be building makeshift hospital rooms for 156 patients at ULTRA and finish the works as fast as we can similar to what we have done at PICC,” Villar said.

The DPWH chief added that construction of the cubicles may be conducted offsite by workers as a social distancing measure with assembling of the cubicles and finishing works to be performed in the actual site.

“With public-private partnership, the government hopes to further convert more  facilities to address hospital congestion, and ensure efficient treatment of patients battling COVID-19 virus,” he said.

Villar also said the technical plans for both ULTRA and Filinvest Tent were approved by hospital design specialist Architect Dan Lichauco.
