LUBAO, Pampanga – The Villars are not planning, or even talking, about the possibility of businessman Manny Villar seeking the presidency, at least for now.
This is according to reelectionist Cynthia Villar when asked to comment on the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte expressing support for the former Speaker once he decides to join the presidential elections again in 2022.
Senator Villar said they are just leaving the decision to the Filipinos if they want her husband Manny to be the next president.
“Ang presidency ay destiny. Kung sa iyo, sa iyo yan. Mahirap na pinaplano mo ang buhay na maging president tapos hindi mo naman pala destined maging,” Senator Villar said in an interview after attending a campaign rally in this vote-rich province.
However, she expressed gratitude to President Duterte for the endorsement and for forming an alliance with her family.
“Mabait siya (President) kay Manny, kasi noong time na congressman siya ang Speaker niya si Manny. They used to travel together,” Sentor Villar said.
“Kami naman malaki ang aming investment sa Davao City. Meron kaming apat na subdivision dun at meron pang dalawang malls na ginagawa kasi alam niyo naman na very progressive ang Davao City, malaki ang market,” she added.
The lady senator, a member of Nacionalista Party, is both endorsed by Hugpong ng Pagbabago founded by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and the PDP-Laban of President Duterte.
Other candidates of NP are Ilocos Gov. Imee Marcos and Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano. Both are also backed by HNP and PDP-Laban.
During the kick-off of PDP-Laban campaign, Duterte said in his speech that he will support Manny Villar if he wants to run for President in the next elections.
