THE public has the right to know the President’s whereabouts, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman said, adding that President Rodrigo Duterte should appreciate the concern of the people for him.
Lagman made the statement following reports that Duterte allegedly left the country amid the pandemic brought about by coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to Lagman, the whereabouts and health of the President are always of national import.
“Where the President travels, whether inside or outside the country, for economic, health or leisure, is the nation’s concern, irrespective of the utilization of public funds,” Lagman said.
“The President must appreciate rather than demean this public concern,” he added.
During his Monday night’s briefing, President Duterte denied he flew to Singapore over the weekend to seek medical treatment.
The President stressed that like any other Filipino, he has the right to travel.
But Lagman said “Duterte is the Chief Executive, not an ordinary citizen, whose whereabouts must be fully transparent except for exigencies of security.
