Gamboa orders intense crackdown vs quarantine violators

PHILIPPINE National Police chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa yesterday ordered an intensified crackdown against all violators of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Luzon and the rest of the country amid an outburst from President Duterte who castigated Filipinos who continue to defy orders from them to stay home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since last March 17 to date, police have already apprehended over 122,000 quarantine violators earning them the ire of President Duterte who declared he will use the full force of the police and the military in going after unauthorized persons who continue to defy orders for them to stay home.

Taking full note of President Duterte’s instruction, Gen. Gamboa also ordered his men to go after citizens who continue to engage in illegal gambling and drinking activities in public. The Commander-in-Chief condemned gambling by citizens who have received special financial assistance from the government to help them cope with the lockdown.

The PNP chief ordered all police commanders to see to it that all persons engaged in’ tupada,’ card games, mah-jong and the like as well as those drinking in public will be apprehended and charged.

He also reminded his men of their strict ‘no drinking/no gambling’ policy in public especially in PNP camps and stations and even in some other places.

Gen. Gamboa also called on his men to follow President Duterte’s instruction for them to be humane especially when it involved food for the family as well as the mandatory wearing of face masks and social distancing.

He required all chiefs of city and municipal police stations to follow-up with their respective local government units the enactment of appropriate ordinances regarding the matter.

The commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, Lieutenant Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said they are all ready to fully comply with the President and Gen. Gamboa’s instructions.
