SPEAKER Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s visit to or ocular inspection of her favorite projects doesn’t mean she’s interested in having a government position after the end of her term in Congress.
Speaker Arroyo reiterated that she has no plan to get any government position after her term as Representative of the 2nd District of Pampanga ends on June 30, 2019.
“No, I’m not interested in any position. I will retire from politics,” she said in an interview.
She described her Roll-on Roll-off transport system and Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) sector tour as a “sentimental journey” as these were her favorite projects during her presidency.
It was during her term as President when RoRo was given a boost as an alternative means of transportation,
Likewise, her pioneering initiatives resulted in the rise of BPOs in the Philippines, making the industry one of the largest in the world.
Aside from RoRo and BPo, Speaker Arroyo also visited the sites for the housing programs for urban poor which started during her administration.
There are reports that Arroyo is being eyed as the next secretary of one of the key departments.
But Arroyo made it clear she would decline any government post despite her being very close to President Duterte.
“I’m going continue writing my memoirs. I’ve never given it much thought yet on what I’ll do to stay busy or get involved,” Speaker Arroyo said when asked about her plans after Congress.
The former President made history as the first lady Speaker of the House.
