RISING star in politics.
This is how former President now Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo described Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, when media asked her about the possibility of the presidential daughter becoming the next president.
In an interview, Speaker Arroyo expressed belief that most children of past presidents are bound to shine like their parents.
“She’s a rising star in the Philippine politics and let me just put it this way, historically children of presidents do rise,” Speaker Arroyo said.
Earlier, the name of the first born of President Rodrigo Duterte was floated as the next candidate for President in 2022.
In separate interview, Duterte-Carpio said she will decide by January 2021 if she will join or not the presidential race.
For her part, Speaker Arroyo also said it is too early to talk about presidential elections.
“Let me just say she is a rising star in Philippine politics even Senator Ping Lacson saw that but let’s take it one election at a time, let’s make sure first the good people are elected now and let us talk about 2022 later on,” Speaker Arroyo said.
Mayor Sara was instrumental in the speakership change, as she campaigned for the ouster of Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez and for the sitting of Speaker Arroyo.
Duterte-Carpio is the campaign manager of Hugpong ng Pagbabago senatorial candidates, namely, former MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino; former police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa; former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go; reelectionists Sonny Angara; Cynthia Villar; JV Ejercito and Koko Pimentel; Ilocos Gov. Imee Marcos; former Sens. Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla Jr.; Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano and Maguindanao Rep. Dong Mangudadatu and former journalist Jiggy Manicad.
During the campaign sortie, she was being accompanied by Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.
The Hupong ng Pagbabago is a regional party founded by Mayor Duterte-Carpio.
