SENATOR Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go urged Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) to strictly follow the law, create jobs and pay the right amount of taxes following President Rodrigo Duterte’s stand not to ban their operations amid criticisms.
“Magnegosyo kayo ng maayos, magbayad kayo ng taxes, sumunod kayo sa batas,” Go said during an ambush interview at the Senate.
Go, however, clarified that he and the President, most importantly, will not tolerate any illegal activity being committed by those involved in POGO.
“Kapag pumasok na kayo sa [money] laundering, ibang usapan na yan. Kapag pumasok kayo at nanggugulo na lang kayo, ‘wag na kayo magnegosyo dito,” he said, adding that the full force of the law must be placed in effect to investigate and prosecute allegations of illegal activities being conducted in the country through these POGO operations.
Presidential spokesperson and chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo said that Duterte “won’t suspend or stop” the operations of POGOs.
Go then asked the public to wait for the results of the investigation being conducted by concerned government agencies, saying, “Hintayin muna natin ang resulta ng imbestigasyon. Ginagawa ng executive ang trabaho nila.”
