THE House of Representatives will resume session on May 4 but will follow guidelines of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Speaker Alan Cayetano said he will consult other House leaders on how they will convene at the resumption of session.
Aside from plenary session, the members of the House are also conducting public hearings on different issues and pending measures in Congress.
President Rodrigo Duterte has extended ECQ until May 15.
“I have to consult leaders of the House but most probably kung paano din kami nagconvene noong March 23,” Cayetano said.
The House leader is referring to the March 23 special session of the Senate and the House of Representatives when they approved a measure declaring a national emergency in the country due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and granting President Rodrigo Duterte more powers to address the crisis.
During that special session, only few solons were allowed to attend while others participated online.
“Totoo na may risk at danger pero ang katotohanan kailangang makita ng tao na may gobyerno, na ‘yung gobyerno nagtatrabaho para sa kanila,” he stressed.
According to Cayetano, the House needs to look into the 2019 and 2020 national budgets to determine the projects that can be cancelled and the budgets reallocated for COVID-19 response.
Under the Constitution, Congress should resume session on May 4.
