SPEAKER Alan Peter Cayetano said the House of Representatives will be supporting the national government by reminding Filipinos to follow the measures imposed to avoid the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In his opening speech during the special session yesterday, Cayetano called the attention of the Filipinos through “PSST”
“PSST. P, prayer. S, stay at home. S, save lives. T, take home package or take home pay which we will pass,” Cayetano said.
Following the call of President Rodrigo Duterte, the House of Representatives held a special session to pass a measure that provides the President with a limited and time-bound emergency power in addressing the health crisis.
Cayetano told the public that there is an unprecedented cooperation between the executive and the legislative in looking for ways to prevent the coronavirus from further spreading and killing patients.
“There will be unprecedented cooperation internationally, that today you will see congressmen, governors and mayors working hand in hand, this is our part, we will do our part, we will help the mayors, we will help the LGUs deliver these resources into the hands of each and every households,” he added.
The House leader lamented that many Filipinos still are not practicing social distancing and risk endangering other people.
He warned that should the government not act swiftly on the crisis, about 35 million will be infected and some 700,000 will die.
"So we face the nation today asking, tayo ba bilang mga Pilipino, willing ba tayo na magkasakit ang mahigit 30 milyong Pilipino? Hindi po,” he added.
