House necro service for Batocabe today

THE House of Representatives will hold this morning a necrological service in honor of the late Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Rodel M. Batocabe.

Batocabe’s wife Girtie and his two sons, Atty. Jhustine and Khiel, will attend the final tribute of colleagues and friends to the late congressman.

“We celebrate his memory as an unyielding advocate of eradicating poverty through affordable quality education. He was also a proponent of legislative efforts to mitigate the occurrence of hazing and bullying in schools. A lawyer by profession, he took a firm stand in promoting social justice, women empowerment, environmental protection, renewable energy and universal access to health and education,”the program invitation stated.

Kabayan Party-list Rep. Paul Hernandez will lead the invocation at 10 a.m. today after the requiem mass at the Plenary Hall of the House of Representatives.

Jhustine will respond to the eulogies to be delivered by Atty. John Reyes, Justices Vicente V. Mendoza and Presbitero Jose Velasco, Jr., former 1-Care party-list Rep. Michael Angelo Rivera, House Minority Leader and Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez, Deputy Speaker and AAMBIS-OWA Party-list Rep. Sharon Garin, and Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to be followed by the offering of the Legislative Memorabilia.

The PNP Band will play “In Memoriam” By Buenaventura and “Nearer, My God, to Thee” by Lowell Mason while Mr. Gene Lopez will sing “What a Wonderful World” by George Weiss and Robert Thiele and “Imagine” by John Winston Lennon during the necrological service.

“The late Hon. Rodel M. Batocabe was an exemplar of how the party-list framework effectively works for the Filipino people. He was  the delegate of Ako Bicol Party-List to Congress for three consecutive terms and a lead convenor and spokesperson of the Party-List Coalition in the past Congresses. In the 17th Congress, he was the president of the 50-member Party-List Coalition,” the invitation added.

Batocabe, a mayoral candidate in Dagara town in Albay, and his police escort SPO1 Orlando Diaz, were killed last December 22 while they were leaving a gift-giving event in Bgy. Burgos, Daraga.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) filed double murder and frustrated murder charges against Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo and his alleged cohorts in Albay for the murder of Batocabe and Diaz.
