THE House of Representatives suspended this week’s session to give way to the Bicameral meeting for the approval of the We Recover As One Act or Bayanihan 2.
The session yesterday opened only to immediately close.
According to House Secretary Generel Atty. Jose Luis G. Montales the leadership wanted to give those attending the Bicameral Conference committee ample time to dicuss the disagreeing provisions of the Bayanihan 2.
“To allow Members to focus on Bayanihan 2 and to give the Committees ample time to conclude their hearings and finish their reports on priority measures, the House leadership has decided NOT to hold plenary session on Aug. 17 (Monday) and Aug. 18 (Tuesday).”
Both House and Senate target the passage and ratification of the measure this week, following the appeal of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Bayanihan 2 provides allocation of P162 billion funds to different agencies and sectors in order to boost the economy adversely affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Likewise, Montales said the House leadership wanted to give other committees enough time to discuss pending bills so that in the coming days the proposed 2021 budget will be the priority.
“The House leadership encourages Committees to hear all priority measures via Zoom this week so that plenary can take them up last week of August and start budget hearings on 1st week of September,” Montales said.
