THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago will remain a regional party, its founder and chairman Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said.
In an interview, Duterte-Carpio said that while there is a clamor from the members to make HNP a national party, she wants to keep it regional.
“Sa simula ang intent talaga ng HNP is to be a regional political party. Everytime na nagkikita kami ng mga governors, officers, it has been the subject of an argument na gusto nilang maging national party,” Duterte-Carpio said.
This is the reason why Duterte-Carpio often avoids seeing the officers of the HNP to prevent arguments.
According to the presidential daughter, when the HNP was created, its main purpose is to focus on the issues and problems in Region 11.
“The HNP was inten-ded to strengthen Davao Region, Region 11. May promise kami sa mga tao doon na ayusin, wholistic ang pag ayos ng Davao region. Kung magiging national party hindi pa nga namin nagawa yung promise namin sa Davao region pupunta na kami sa iba pang tasks so hindi maganda para sa Davao region kung maging national kami,” she added.
The HNP however is supporting senatorial candidates, namely, Ilocos Gov. Imee Marcos; Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano; reelectionists Sonny Angara, JV Ejercito;and Koko Pimentel; former MMDA chair Francis Tolentino; former Police Chief Bato dela Rosa; former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go; former broadcast journalist Jiggy Manicad; Maguindanao Rep. Dong Mangudadatu; and ex-Sens. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr and Jinggoy Estrada.
The President on the other hand is supporting the candidates of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
