Paolo “Pulong” Duterte

THE Speakership issue is not yet over, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte said as he warned that one of three speakership hopefuls planned to wrest the House leadership from President Rodrigo Duterte’s anointed.

A source forwarded to House reporters a text message from Rep. Duterte in which he said it is premature to discuss the committee chairmanships because the issue of speakership has not been resolved.

“Wala pa naman nanalo Speaker, bakit committee na ang tinatanong. May election pa sa July 22 at doon ako mas interesado,” the text message read.

In the same text, the presidential son disclosed that one of the three aspirants is planning to stage a coup d’ etat at the opening of the 18th Congress on July 22.

“Kasi may bali-balita, may isa sa tatlo na balak mag coup d’ etat on the day. Mukhang hindi pa tapos ang laban para sa kanilang tatlo at sa mga backers,” he added.

The new Davao congressman did not name the speakership aspirant planning the “coup.”

Just recently, President Rodrigo Duterte endorsed term-sharing between Taguig City Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco. Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez was endorsed as Majority Leader.

The Presidential son had also attempted to join the speakership race but eventually backed out. He expressed support for Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab, who is being backed by the Duterte Coalition and the Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

Sources said that despite the President’s pronouncement, some party-list lawmakers are still gathering signatures of support for Ungab.

The Duterte Coalition was formed by Paolo’s Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

Romualdez already accepted the Majority Leader post while Velasco has yet to issue an official statement.
