For lack of quorum, House holds ‘open-close’ session

February 11, 2020

YESTERDAY’S session of the House of Representatives was closed as soon as it opened and no roll call was done.

This is because the 89 lady lawmakers were not present in the plenary and therefore there was no quorum.

In his Facebook account, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano was the guest of honor at a Thanksgiving lunch sponsored by the lady solons.

The congresswomen met in Sofitel Hotel to discuss important matters and measures that need to be prioritized by the House.

Cayetano allowed the congresswomen to hold their meeting outside the Batasan.

“Mag open-close lang tayo ng session without attendance today (Tuesday), so that you can finish your discussion.  Not because we need a free day but because  whether we like it or not medyo male dominated pa rin yung opinion,” Cayetano said addressing the lady lawmakers.

Cayetano also announced that next week he will be calling a meeting of all House leaders instead of the few to discuss the House priorities.

Meanwhile, Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza said the House leaders decided to adjourn the session to prevent him from questioning the committee on legislative franchise on its inaction on the franchise of ABS-CBN Corporation.

“I believe my colleagues are avoiding to tackle the issue on ABS-CBN franchise renewal in the plenary session. Kahapon nagkagulo-gulo kami,” Atienza said in separate interview.
