SENATOR Panfilo “Ping” Lacson warned that he may bring the issue of “pork barrel” contained in the 2019 General Appropriations Act to the Supreme Court if President Rodrigo Duterte will not veto questionable provisions in the budget law.
Lacson was asked by reporters about the national budget law which was already sent to Malacanang for the President’s signature.
But Lacson still expressed confidence that Duterte will veto the items he is questioning since the Chief Executive is all out against any form of corruption.
“I might. But we’re confident the President will veto the items. Kasi pinakuha ni ES (Executive Secretary Salvador) Medialdea ang detalye ng mga sinasabi naming ni-realign. Pinakuha rin ni SOF (Finance Secretary Carlos) Dominguez and pinakuha rin ng (Secretary of Budget and Management) SBM, what would that indicate?” Lacson told the media.
Despite his warnings, Lacson admitted that pursuing a case against pork barrel at the Supreme Court will require much time and effort.
“Napaka-tedious ng process, maghanap ng lawyer. Sabi ko nga I might just question it. Pero I’ll just cross the bridge when I get there. Kasi malaki naman ang indication na ive-veto,” Lacson hopefully said.
Among the provisions Lacson is questioning is the realignment made by the House of Representatives on the P75 billion projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the different districts of congressmen.
