THE 61-year-old street dweller’s eyes must have glistened as he looked at the six-year-old girl trapped inside his dirty cart. Soon, his rough hands and foul-smelling kisses were all over the child. Just like a hungy spider conning a fly, he had asked the victim, “Would you like to step into in my wagon?”
This was supposedly how the aging street dweller allegedly managed to lure the young victim into his cart then rape her. After five years in hiding, he was nabbed by Mandaluyong Police following an operation on Friday.
Mandaluyong Police chief, Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran Jr., identified the suspect as Rolando Cabudlay who was collared by a team of the Warrant and Subpoena Section headed by SPO4 Bobby Rico along Martinez Street, Bgy. Plainiview at around 7:45 p.m.
An arrest warramt was issued against Cabdulay by Judge Monique Quisimbing-Ignacio of the Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 209 for the crime of rape.
Records showed the suspect was accused by the six-year-old girl of raping her inside a cart in 2013.
Police said the suspect lives in his cart near the victim’s residence.
A report said the old man invited the girl who was playing along the street to ride in his cart. The suspect brought the girl a few meters away from her residence then allegedly abused her. The girl’s parents filed rape charges against the suspect before the Mandaluyong Police.
Rico said arrest was a result of surveillance by operatives after they received information that suspect had returned to the area. Cabudlay is detained at the Mandaluyong Police detention cell. He was not allowed to post bail.
