HUGPONG ng Pagbabago chairman Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is in favor of releasing the so-called narcopolitics list but with proper verification.
At least two HNP candidates, Jiggy Manicad and Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, backed Duterte-Carpio’s stand saying it is still important for the law enforcers to verify carefully those in the list in order not to give the people wrong information.
According to Duterte-Carpio, it is better also for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to provide complete information why these people are listed or tagged as narco politicians.
“There is no law na nagbabawal na maglabas ang PDEA ng narcolist ng politicians. Pero dapat siguro, pag lumabas ka, the PDEA and the PNP should make sure na merong basis kung bakit sila nasabi o nailagay sa list,” Duterte-Carpio said in an interview yesterday, after a campaign sortie in Pasay City.
“Sabi ko nga dapat ilagay kung bakit sila nanduon. I think that is fair sa mga taong nakalista doon to make sure na meron silang opportunity na sumagot. So we will ask them to answer kung ano yung accusation,” she added.
For his part, former journalist Manicad asked the PDEA to prepare not just the list but the basis why politicians are involved in drug operation.
“I think kung may basehan, kung may ebidensya dapat ilabas pero dapat mahigpit yung verification,” Manicad said.
“So ako pabor para malaman ng tao yung dapat iboto para talagang mawala na sila sa political cycle, sa political life natin as long as merong ebidensya, verified na listahan at talagang kunpleto yung detalye.
“Ang pinupunto ko lang dapat air tight information, air tight case para walang butas yan,” he said.
Dela Rosa, the former chief of the PNP who enforced Oplan Tokhang, is confident that the PDEA had already verified the list.
“Sa tagal na ng list na yan, from the original list, naglabas na ng bago after 3 years,mag-3 years na yung monitoring ng PDEA at PNP, malaki ang expectation ko finally validated na yan at nasala na ang list na yan,” he said.
Both the heads of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency have cited the importance of fully validating the so-called narco-list before they are made public before the May 13 national and local elections.
“What is important here is validation. Sometimes, some information is very hard to validate since we need to gather physical evidence, direct testimonies from witnesses. There is also information from the ground which pertains to the involvement of one personality to drugs but the sad thing is it’s very hard to find evidence against him,” said PNP chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde.
The PNP chief however added that should there is complete validation made by all concerned intelligence agencies, he will be pushing for the full disclosure of the validated list.
The PNP chief also maintained it is up to President Duterte if he would order the disclosure of the list. “Ang sa akin it will be up to the Commander-in-Chief. If he decides to divulge the list then we will support his decision. Depende yan sa Presidente,” Albayalde said.
PDEA chair Director General Aaron N. Aquino said he is not in favor of disclosing the list of politicians allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade ahead of the May 13 elections saying there is a big need to build much stronger cases against them first.
