DAVAO City Representative Karlo Nograles is among those being considered to be the next Secretary to the Cabinet, Malacañang said yesterday.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Nograles is one of the “leading” candidates for the post vacated by Leoncio “Jun” Evasco Jr., who left the Duterte administration early this month to focus on his candidacy for governor of Bohol province in the 2019 midterm elections.
“Let’s just wait for the President to announce. It’s the President’s call,” Panelo said at a press briefing.
Panelo said Duterte will soon announce the replacements for Cabinet members who resigned as a result of their electoral candidacies.
“It is forthcoming; most likely after Undas,” the Palace official said.
Panelo, meanwhile, could not confirm reports that Senator Gregorio Honasan II will be the next head of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
Nograles once entertained the idea of seeking a Senate seat but in a statement on October 3 the Davao City first district representative said he would instead support Mindanaoan candidates “who share my desire to bring development to the regions and uplift the welfare of our kapwa probinsyanos.”
Now on his third and last term as congressman, Nograles’ seat in the House of Representatives is being eyed by presidential son and former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.
