Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila protests ‘suppression’ of free speech

February 15, 2019

STUDENTS of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) yesterday protested alleged suppression of their freedom of expression and demanded that the university be spared from politics.

The students held a protest rally at around 4 p.m., led by psychology and medicine students and members of the League of Filipino Students (LFS), claiming the school administration is running after them for their personal comments on Facebook.

The students earlier criticized the putting up of posters of Mayor Joseph Estrada at the PLM premises, saying the university is being used for politics.

The students said those who opposed the display of political posters were photographed and are now undergoing expulsion processes.

Yesterday, the students wore black armbands and held up placards saying, “Uphold Students Rights”.

The media were stopped at the gates by guards when they tried to get the side of the administration.
