A PARTY-LIST group yesterday welcomed the newly-signed law of President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte creating the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development to address housing woes for less privileged people.

Partido ng Bayan ang Bida (PBB) nominee Atty. Imee Cruz said the signing of Republic Act (RA) 11201 will ensure affordable and decent housing for every Filipino.

“It is the dream of everyone to have access to affordable, decent, and safe housing. With the recent enactment of RA 11201, leading to the creation of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, we are a step closer in making this Filipino dream of having a house that they can call their own become a reality,” said Cruz.

As the lone party-list genuinely pushing for decent and affordable housing for every Filipino family, PBB vowed to lead in guarding the effective implementation of RA 11201 to ensure a truly comprehensive socialized housing program Filipinos.

The law will finally solve decades-long informal settlers’ problem in the country as this will promote on-site, in-city or near-city housing projects for the poor that would protect their jobs.

The law will consolidate the current Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) to become the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).

The said new Housing Department shall be in charge of the management of housing, human settlement, and urban development.

To ensure efficient delivery of service, DHSUD will also exercise administrative supervision over the National Housing Authority, National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation, Home Development Mutual Fund, and the Social Housing Finance Corporation.
