THE Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc, which has 54 members, is set to meet with the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) to discuss the speakership issue.
The HNP, founded and chaired by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, just recently announced that it is fielding Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab for Speaker.
One of the party-list group spokespersons, Rodante Marcoleta of 1-SAGIP party-list, said that they want to meet the HNP in order to settle the speakership issue.
Earlier, the PCFI said that the members decided to choose between Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.
“The PCFI will discuss HNP’s formula in settling the House leadership issue with utmost objectivity, the nation’s best interest being the primary consideration,” Marcoleta said in a statement.
“The PCFI resolved to meet soon with HNP to work on common grounds consistent with the shared mandate to serve our people well,” he added.
The group will meet again anytime soon to decide who will be their bet for Speaker, but gave the assurance that they will vote as one.
Earlier, presidential son Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte expressed willingness to join the race due to the idea of term sharing put forward by another aspirant Taguig City Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
But the HNP is supporting Ungab because the group understands President Duterte, because of delicadeza, may not agree with Rep. Paolo’s intention to be the next Speaker to help unite the House of Representatives.
Originally, Rep. Paolo is a member of local party Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, and is not a part of HNP like Ungab.
Should Ungab become the Speaker, the HNP is proposing Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano to take the Majority Leader position, Rep. Lord Alan Velasco to take the Appropriations Committee, and Rep. Martin Romualdez to head the Accounts Committee.
