PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte expressed shock and anger at the death of a schoolgirl and a man in a mass stabbing around a school bus stop in Kawasaki early this week.
Duterte made the statement days following reports that 17 students of a private Catholic school in the city near Tokyo and two parents were attacked Tuesday.
In a short statement, Duterte, who repeatedly vowed in his speeches to kill those who would destroy the youth of his country, condemned the attack.
“I express my profound shock and grief over the mass stabbing incident which happened in Kawasaki,” he said.
“I am outraged by this brutal attack against innocent young children,” he added.
The President, who is in Tokyo to attend an economic conference, expressed support to Japan as it moves to bring justice to the victims of the stabbing.
“On behalf of the Filipino people, I extend my sincere prayers for the victims and our deepest sympathies to their families who need solace and strength in this difficult time,” Duterte said.
“We stand behind the Government of Japan as it endeavors to bring justice to the victims of this horrific act of violence,” he added.
