PH students win 3rd place in int’l industrial revolution competition in Russia

THE Philippines placed third in the International Championship of Technology Strategy “Metal Cup: The Fourth Industrial Revolution” held in  Krasnoyarsk City, Russia.

The Philippine team was composed of students from the of the University of the Philippines-College of Engineering -- team leader Agustin Dominic Laplana, and team members Juan Raphael Contreras, Mae Pursia Orbon, Aaron Dave Tomas, Jolina Pagulayan and John Karlo Mercado.

Two members of the faculty -- Joy Marisol Maniaul and Karlo Leandro Baladad -- served as coaches.

Top engineering schools from more than 11 countries joined the competition, where they were given a problem a month before the competition that required knowledge on metallurgy and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to solve.

“This is quite an achievement as they were up against a highly competitive field, which included teams from the best engineering schools of industrialized countries like Russia and China.  We are very proud of these young men and women, and they represent the future of Philippine industrial technology,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.

The Philippine team visited the Philippine Embassy in Moscow after the awarding and met with Sorreta.
