The Philippines gained a seat on the Global Education Steering Committee during a meeting at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Headquarters in Paris, France.
The Philippines, represented by Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan, and representatives from China, Japan and the Republic of Korea were announced as the four members for the Asia Pacific Group.
This resulted from intensive consultations within the Asia-Pacific Group, and a decision by the Steering Committee to increase regional representation from three to four members.
Established in 2016, the Steering Committee is the global multi-stakeholder coordination mechanism for 2030 Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 on inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning for all.
