THE Philippine National Police yesterday said it will go after hoarders of N-95 masks and other basic supplies amid the N-COV virus threat.
“The PNP under Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa will assist the Department of Trade and Industry and Local Government Units for lateral coordination of measures to stop possible hoarding and diminishing of supplies,” said PNP spokesman Brigadier General Bernard M. Banac.
According to Banac, the CIDG and local police units are on high readiness mode, awaiting DTI and LGUs to seek police assistance to identify possible storehouses and track down persons suspected to be hoarding supplies and violating existing laws imposed by authorities.
“As of today, situation remains normal but PNP chief PGen Gamboa urges the public to avoid panic buying of basic supplies and commodities; and to remain calm, composed and informed,” he said.
“We assure the public that the PNP remains alert and vigilant to ensure public order and safety; and prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the situation,” Banac added.
