FORTY-ONE new COVID-19 cases were recorded by the Philippine National Police on Friday bringing to 2,798 the total number of police personnel who have contracted the killer virus since last March, officials said yesterday.
The 41 include 7 from the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame; 2 from a National Administrative Support Unit; 4 from a National Operational Support Unit; 23 from the National Capital Region Police Office; 3 from the Police Regional Office 4-A in Calabarzon region; and 1 each from the PRO6 in Western Visayas region and PRO Bangsamoro Administrative Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Last Tuesday, a member of the NCRPO passed away after battling a COVID-19-triggered pneumonia making him the 13th PNP fatality as a result of the unseen virus.
Staff Sergeant Edgardo Medrano, assigned at the Manila Police District headquarters died due to acute pneumonia, a complication of COVID-19 virus infection, while undergoing treatment at the C.T. Reyes Hospital in Tanauan City in Batangas, said NCRPO director, Major General Debold M. Sinas.
As of Friday evening, 1,841 of the 2,798 confirmed COVID-19 patients from the PNP have already recovered from the disease. The PNP Health Service headed by Brigadier Gen. Herminio S. Tadeo Jr. is also monitoring the cases of 747 Probable Persons Under Investigation and 2,153 other Suspected PUIs in the police force.
