THE Philippine National Police in partnership with the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) on Wednesday officially launched the 24/7 PNP ‘Helpline 16677’ which will be the PNP’s bridge with the public in answering concerns under the New Normal triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We want a quick response system that will immediately address and respond to the public’s concerns in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The timely release of information and assistance is urgently needed by our people and the PNP’s helpline will provide just that,” said PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa in launching the hotline for public assistance and response in support of police operations.
According to Gen. Gamboa, the project will further strengthen communications and ensure the quick response of the PNP to urgent issues and concerns of the public on the ‘New Normal’ relative to the police implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine and General Community Quarantine.
The PNP Directorate for Operations–PNP Command Center will be the communication hub for ECQ and GCQ concerns aside from its daily monitoring system relative to police operations and updates on law enforcement, said PNP spokesman, Brigadier Gen. Bernard M. Banac.
PLDT donated 52 units of mobile phones with load, 30 units of pocket Wi-Fi, 100 piees of pre-paid cards worth P300 each, the Enterprise SMS Messaging Suite, and PNP Helpline 16677.
“Within the month, the DO-PCC was able to complete all technical and administrative requirements for this new communication system, from coordination with PLDT, system configuration, setup and testing of the 16677 platform.” The PNP chief said.
Gen. Gamboa added that “the intention of the platform is to provide a communication medium for the public to raise their issues and concerns relative to the implementation of rules and ordinances under ECQ and GCQ.”
He assured that the 24/7 PNP Helpline 16677 will be manned by trained police personnel who will readily respond to public concerns.
