A 10th policeman has been added to the list of COVID-19 fatalities in the Philippine National Police as the number of its confirmed cases jumped to 1,796 yesterday, officials said.

The 10th fatality was described by the PNP Health Service as a 46-year-old Police Commissioned Officer assigned at the PNP national headquarters. He expired last Wednesday.

A member of the Northern Police District with the rank of Police Executive Master Sergeant on Friday also died from suspected COVID infection while confined in a local hospital. The victim’s death was said to have been caused by Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and severe community-acquired pneumonia.

The policeman who has been described as a probable COVID-19 case was subjected to a swab test although the result is yet to be released. He however may turn out to be the 11th PNP COVID-19 fatality once his swab test yields a positive result.
