PNP upholds human rights

October 15, 2018

PHILIPPINE National Police chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde yesterday assured the United Nations and the rest of the global community that human rights protection is well-entrenched in their organization amid the election of the Philippines to the UN Human Rights Commission anew.

“First of all, the Philippine National Police shares with the entire Filipino nation the honor of being elected anew to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to serve another 3-year term until 2020. The Philippines’ election to the UNHRC is a clear manifestation of the international community’s recognition of our steady progress in fulfilling international human rights obligations,” the PNP chief said.

“Also, on behalf of the partner agencies and stakeholders in the national anti-drug campaign, the PNP welcomes the larger acknowledgement by the United Nations of the global problem of illegal drugs as expressed in the World Drug Report 2018 of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime that recognizes “the unprecedented magnitude and complexity of the global drug markets, including the adverse health consequences caused by drug use, the rising drug-related deaths, and the ongoing, concentrated opioid epidemics’,” he added.
