THE Philippine National Police headed by Director General Oscar D. Albayalde’s birthday gift to President Duterte could be summed up in 12 words: full support to the President’s war on illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.
In a video uploaded on the PNP chief’s official Facebook page, Gen. Albayalde and his men wished the former Davao City mayor all the best as he marked his 74th birthday yesterday and reiterated their support for his flagship program to curb drugs, criminality and corruption.
“To our President Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Sir, on behalf of the 190,000-strong PNP personnel, we would like to greet you a happy birthday,” Gen. Albayalde said in the video filmed at the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office.
With him were other top police officials including PNP Director for Comptrollership, Major General Jose Ma. Victor DF Ramos and Brigadier General Romulo Sapitula of the Police Regional Office 1 in Ilocos-Pangasinan region.
“We wish you good health and long life and we would like to assure you that the PNP is behind you in all your advocacy and thrust against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption. With your great leadership we can make our country great and strong,” said the country’s top cop in his greetings at the same time wishing the President good health and long life.
The PNP is spearheading a massive war against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption under the Duterte administration. It said that the all-out campaign against criminality has reduced by over 50 percent the total crime volume in the country since 2016 and led to the arrest of dozens of corrupt law enforcers and government officials.
The other day, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency headed by Director General Aaron N. Aquino said that a total of 5,281 armed suspected drug personalities have been killed in gunbattles with undercover officers from July 1, 2016 up to last February 28 alone.
PDEA spokesman, Director Derrick Arnold C. Carreon said that during the period, 176,021 drug suspects were arrested as a result of 123,441 anti-narcotics operations conducted by the PDEA, the PNP and other law enforcement agencies across the country.
