LUCENA CITY--- Confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Quezon province continue to rise fast as 29 new virus carriers were recorded today (August 1) bringing to 376 the total number of those infected.
In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the Quezon Public Information Officr (QPIO) announced that of the figures, 7 cases are from this city, 8 from the town of Mauban, 6 from Candelaria, 2 each from Tayabas City, Gen. Luna and Sariaya and 1 each from Pagbilao and Catanauan.
The QPIO's also reported the death of a virus carrier from Pagbilao but it did not provide other details.
The sudden fast increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases started days after the province was placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) status last July 1.
Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) chief Dr. Grace Santiago in a recent interview said the fast- increasing cases is a result of people's laxity and negligence.
Santiago cited, as example, those people including children and elderly walking along the streets with no face mask and some business establishments which do not practice social distancing.
Of the 376 current cases, 206 have already recovered, 16 have died and 154 are still confined in different medical facilities.
Out of the 39 municipalites and 2 cities in the privince, only the towns of Plaridel, Jomalig, Burdeos, Gen. Nakar, San Narciso, San Andres and San Francisco remain coronavirus-free.
