SENATOR Risa Hontiveros is removing herself as one of the authors of the Security of Tenure Bill which she claimed cannot end contractualization due to the non-lack of a prohibition against fixed term employment.
Hontiveros in a statement said that she supported the SOT Bill with the hope that they can strengthen it in the bicameral process by including a provision against fixed term employment which was also included in the version passed by the House of Representatives.
“Sadly, the House of Representatives decided to simply adopt the Senate’s version of the bill, thereby cancelling the bicameral process and missing the opportunity to include the provision against fixed term employment,” she pointed out.
“The prohibition against fixed term employment is the heart and soul of the Security of Tenure Bill. Without this, the measure cannot end ENDO,” she added.
Hontiveros added that without the provision, which is the position of her political party Akbayan, she cannot associate herself with the ENDO bill.
“In consultation with our partner labor groups and with all due respect to my colleagues, I will disassociate myself from this measure and remove myself from among its authors,” she said.
