PHILIPPINE Constitution Association (Philconsa) president Martin Romualdez, also president of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) and former House Independent Bloc of the previous 16th Congress, thanked all his supporters for believing in his ability to continue his “malasakit” (compassionate) advocacies.
Romualdez is about to reclaim his seat as congressman of Leyte’s first district after garnering a huge number of votes in the congressional race.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, chairperson of the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), has endorsed Romualdez as Speaker of the incoming 18th Congress.
As of 1:53 p.m. yesterday, Romualdez, a three-term Leyte congressman, got 157,382 votes against Lino Dumas who just garnered 9,621 votes based on partial and unofficial results from the aggregated Commission on Elections (Comelec) data comprising 499 election returns (ERs).
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all the support and votes given to me in the last election,” said Romualdez, husband of Leyte First District Rep. Yedda Marie M. Kittilstvedt-Romualdez, first nominee of Tingog Sinirangan party-list group.
According also to partial and unofficial results from the aggregated Comelec data as of 2:50 p.m. yesterday, Tingog Sinirangan ranked 18th with 381,249 votes and is expected to get one seat.
