POLITICAL allies and family of former Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. welcomed the decision of the Sandiganbayan to acquit him of plunder.
Lakas-CMD president former Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez said Revilla is a victim of political persecution by the previous administration.
“I am really grateful that Sen. Bong, our party chairman, was acquitted after a very stressful trial. This good decision will give a big boost to his senatorial bid,” Romualdez said.
Cavite Rep. Strike Revilla, the brother of Bong, said it is a great relief for the family to welcome home Bong Revilla who was incarcerated and denied justice for years.
"The Revilla family and the people of Cavite welcome the decision by Sandiganbayan acquitting Senator Bong Revilla of any charges. We are very happy that truth prevailed," the congressman said.
Romualdez expressed belief that the verdict is very timely as this will boost Revilla’s candidacy for the Senate.
“His acquittal only validates and proves that the plunder case against him is politically motivated. Sadly, the plunder case took away more than four years of his life,” Romualdez said.
Lakas-CMD is fully supporting Revilla’s candidacy because he is one of the most qualified senatorial aspirants.
“His passion and dedication to serve the people will bring positive change and help improve the country’s good governance, policies, and lawmaking process. With the people and God’s help, the Lakas-CMD is looking forward to his victory in next year’s midterm poll,” Romualdez added.
Rep. Strike expressed gratitude to the Sandiganbayan for the fair ruling.
"We thank them for being fair. Our family is thankful that Senator Bong will finally be free, and this is our best Christmas gift. We thank our God, the people of Cavite, and our supporters for this wonderful present," Rep. Strike said.
