HUGPONG ng Pagbabago founder and chairman Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has refused to reconcile with Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez.
In a statement sent to media, Mayor Sara even called Alvarez a “dangerous individual.”
“I have no intention of accepting Rep. Bebot Alvarez’ offer of reconciliation because the offer was deceiving and utterly lacked sincerity,” she said.
Mayor Sara and Alvarez had a bitter feud that ended with ouster of the latter as Speaker of the House.
According to Mayor Sara — she had learned that Alvarez has been saying negative things her contrary to the his offer of reconciliation.
“Unknown to him, he was surreptitiously videotaped when he threatened, after his win in the recent elections in Davao del Norte, “Ipapahiya ko si Sara,” the presidential daughter said.
“Alvarez was and he remains to be a very dangerous, machiavellian individual who does not deserve peace,” she added.
After being re-elected, Alvarez is again eyeing the Speakership, saying it belonged to someone from the PDP-Laban, the party of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Earlier, Alvarez offered to reconcile with his political enemies, including Mayor Sara.
He made the initiative five days after his PDP-Laban ticket made a clean sweep of the elections in his province, beating candidates fielded by the mayor’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago, including three belonging to the Floirendo-del Rosario political clan.
“Now that elections are over, I offer my hand in peace to heal our deep and divisive wounds,” Alvarez said in a statement.
In a previous interview, Mayor Sara said she is not in favor of Alvarez being the Speaker again.
“Siguro yung nasubukan na at hindi naman nag-succeed, huwag na lang sigurong ibalik,” she said.
However, she clarified that since she is not a part of the legislative branch, she will let the members of the House of Representatives decide on the matter.
