THE political opposition in Biñan City, Laguna, whose mayoralty bet, Councilor Donna P. Yatco, has been “endorsed” by presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, expects a convincing victory when polling precincts close on Monday.
A source close to Yatco’s camp said “bandwagon effect” of her candidacy continues to gather momentum with less than 72 hours before the election powered by the “endorsement” of the popular presidential daughter and by the expected “defection” to their camp by 6 key allies of incumbent mayor, Walfredo ‘Arman’ Dimaguila.
The source averred that the six realized “something was wrong” when Pres. Rodrigo Duterte refused to endorse Dimaguila when he visited Biñan last February 23 for the campaign of the PDP-Laban senatorial candidates of which Dimaguila is also now a leading member in Laguna.
“Kapartido hindi inindorso ng Presidente, ibig sabihin hindi siya ‘bilib’ kaya malaking bagay ‘yun,” said the source.
Since then, the source said, there had been several “secret meetings” between Yatco and the close allies of Dimaguila on how they can help each other “for a better Biñan” as soon as the election was over and with Yatco expecting to be proclaimed as the new city mayor.
The source further bared that news reports disclosing the many travel junkets abroad, “missing” city assets, unpaid city debts and the city’s unpreparedness during calamities as detailed by a report from the Commission on Audit (COA), also made the group realize that their support for Dimaguila was at the expense of Biñan and its residents.
“Ayon na rin sa kanila, bandang huli na nila naisip na ‘mali’ ang kanilang desisyon na suportahan sa mahabang panahon si Mayor Dimaguila kaya gusto nilang iwasto ang kanilang ‘pagkakamali’ habang hindi pa huli ang lahat at para na rin umano sa kapakanan ng Biñan,” the source said.
Of the six erstwhile allies of Dimaguila, three of them were incumbent city councilors while the other three are former city councilors. Of the incumbent councilors, two of them are women.
