THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago senatorial team is set to make campaign sorties in the vote-rich Metro Manila.
To be led by its campaign manager, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, the HNP candidates will court voters from Manila,Valenzuela, Malabon, Navotas, San Juan, Pateros, Taguig and Quezon City by next week.
The HNP, a regional party founded by Duterte-Carpio, is endorsing 13 candidates, namely, former MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino; former police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa; former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go; reelectionists Sonny Angara, Cynthia Villar, JV Ejercito and Koko Pimentel; Ilocos Gov. Imee Marcos; former Sens. Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla Jr.; Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano and Maguindanao Rep. Dong Mangudadatu and former journalist Jiggy Manicad.
In a previous interview, Duterte-Carpio said she is 60 percent confident of support from the local parties with whom the HMP has forged an alliance.
“Mga 60 percent confident... malalaman natin ‘yan after elections. Kailangan namin ng maraming maraming kaibigan para ‘yung confidence namin para manalo ay tumaas from 60 to 80 percent,” Duterte-Carpio said.
Angara, who confirmed his attendance in next week’s campaign rally, is pushing for more employment of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Angara is calling on state institutions and the private sector to hire more qualified PWDs amid continued disparities in their employment situation.
Angara pointed out that Republic Act 10524 or An Act Expanding the Positions Reserved for PWDs requires government offices to reserve at least one percent of their total positions to PWDs. Under the law, corporations with more than 100 employees are encouraged to do the same.
