Sara’s party decries Ungab fate

GROSSLY unacceptable.

This is what the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) said of removal of Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab as chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.

Ungab is a member of the party formed and chaired by presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“The convenors of Hugpong ng Pagbabago strongly condemn the removal of Davao City Congressman Isidro Ungab from his post as chair of the House Committee on Appropriations,” the statement read.

The HNP said Ungab is a supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte and as a member of the 18th Congress, he is contributing to the reforms and programs needed to improve the economy.

The powerful committee was given to ACT-CIS Rep. Eric Go Yap, who is also an ally of the Duterte family.

“For HNP, the ouster of Ungab was grossly unacceptable as it is disadvantageous to the Duterte administration’s reform agenda for the Filipino people and the country,” the HNP said.

“We laud him for being a good soldier of President Rodrigo Duterte and for doing his job with pride and principle,” the group added.

During the senatorial elections the HNP through Mayor Duterte supported the candidacy of 13 senatorial candidates nine of whom won.

Meanwhile, Yap expressed gratitude to the House leadership for giving him the chance to lead a powerful committee that deals on the country’s annual budget.

“Gaya ng ibang responsibilidad na iniatang sa atin, buong puso kong tinatanggap ang hamon na pagiging Chairman ng House Committee on Appropriations. Ito ay malugod nating tinanggap para tayo ay lalong makapagsilbi sa sambayanang Pilipino,” Yap said.

Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano defended the decision of the House leadership to elect Yap as chairman of the appropriations committee despite being a neophyte.
