Solon seeks bailout for tenants of malls

IF malls are closed as proposed, a lawmaker said tenants should be given rental holiday or discounts in view of business slowdown due to the coronavirus or COVID-19.

San Jose del Monte Rep. Rida Robes said that mall owners and businessmen should consider that the reduced consumer activities during the community quarantine will hurt the tenants.

She suggested tenants be given at least rental holiday or even discounts.

The entire Metro Manila was placed under community quarantine due to the rising cases of the COVID-19.

“Many businesses in the retail industry are experiencing a slowdown and even losses. Many of them are small businessmen. Many workers also rely on these establishments and many of them are in danger of losing their jobs because of the slowdown. Owners of these establishments, especially our big malls should give them rental holiday or at least discounts in their rental payments to keep them afloat and ease their burden. It is our obligation to help one another in this time of crisis,” Robes said.

San Jose Del Monte City has its first case of COVID 19 patient. The 58-year-old patient who has no travel history is said to be in a stable condition in a hospital in Caloocan City.
