MAKATI Mayor Abby Binay has ordered the Makati City Police Office to immediately resolve the apparent murder try against the former executive assistant of her brother, former Mayor Junjun Binay.
In a statement issued after the incident, the mayor vowed “not to allow troublemakers to disturb the peace and order in the city.”
Monaliza Bernardo, 44-year-old resident of Olympia Village, was shot by a still unidentified gunman in front of her house as she was entering its gate after returning from work Thursday night.
According to the initial police report, the victim was shot on the right hand and the bullet went through her stomach. She was brought to Makati Medical Center for treatment and is now in stable condition, other reports added.
“Tahimik at payapa kami dito sa Makati. Hindi ako papayag na sirain ito ng mga gustong manggulo sa aming lungsod,” Mayor Abby vowed.
“I have ordered the chief of police to do everything possible to resolve the incident and identify those who are behind it.
“I am also ordering the barangay chairman to collaborate with the police and immediately turn over the CCTV footage and any other material that may help with the investigation,” the mayor added.
Based on the police report, the shooting took place at about 8:13 p.m. Thursday in front of the victim’s residence.
Witnesses said the gunman came from behind Bernardo on board a blue motorcycle and shot her once before fleeing with an unidentified companion towards South Avenue. The police recovered one empty shell of caliber .45 bullet from the crime scene.
The Makati police are currently conducting follow-up operations on the case.
